Although I believe that it's a free country and that people should generally be able to do what they want to, I'm not sure that I agree fully with the reasons given for the "need" of a name change. That, and the students apparently chose the "Patriots" mascot, because New England just recently won the Super Bowl. Ironically, the word "patriot" has been associated with fascism, so it seems like the problem that they were trying to "solve" has just started back u[ all over again...

A rose by any other name is but a rose. No matter how you slice it, people can read into a name exactly what they choose too.

Obviously, they can do whatever they like. On one hand, I think it's a shame because I kind of like the image. On the other hand, I have been trying to avoid the use of the term 'Rebel', because that was the Yankee term for us and it gives credence to their view which is never desirable. I have switched to the term 'Patriot' because that is the correct view of the Southern stance.
